The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC)
The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC ) was, actually, one of the most important consequences of the International campaign to save the monuments of Nubia .
When Nubia monuments -such as the temples of Abu Simbel, Philes and Klabsha -have been already saved, the international committee of salvage decided then to crown such great work by establishing two museums : one of them is Nubia museum at Aswan which exhibits the history of the south of Egypt in Aswan and Nubia in addition to explaining how the whole world joined its forces for the noble aim of saving the human heritage.
The other museum was The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) which will be one of the Key points of introducing the Egyptian Civilization. As a matter of fact , the objective of NMEC is to address mainly the Egyptian visitor then comes its concern with the foreigners. Therefore, the committee decided to maintain its works in Egypt but with a different name that is
" The International Executive committee of establishing the Nubia Museum in Aswan and NMEC in Cairo " . At the late 1980s of the 20 th century, the committee decided to concentrate on constructing the Nubia Museum at first in order to have the chance of exhibiting the stored monuments, the most of which were discovered during the salvage works. The end was on 23th November 1997 when His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Hosni Mubarak , the Egyptian president and Mr. Fredrico Mallieur , the General Director of UNESCO at that time inaugurated the Nubia Museum . Consequently work in NMEC stopped at the phase of preparing the suitable architectural plans.
